Records consist of minutes and financial records of several South Carolina lodges of the Independent Order of Oddfellows. Records include a minute book (1857-1901) of meetings of the Palmetto Encampment No. 1 and the Chicora Encampment No. 9 of the Independent Order of Oddfellows; a dues book (1857-1886) and checkbook (1860-1882) of the Marion Lodge No. 2; a cash book (1865-1886) of the Schiller Lodge No. 30; and a bound volume (1843-1850) containing dues accounts of members and a list of members (with notes on expulsions, withdrawals, deaths, and other matters). Minutes (1847-1854) of meetings of Marion Lodge No. 2 of Charleston (S.C.) record constitutional changes, financial matters, elections of officers and new members (with professions and street addresses given), provisions for widows and orphans of deceased members, the construction of a new hall at King and Liberty streets in Charleston (S.C.), illness of members during a fever epidemic of 1854, the Oddfellows Cemetery, and charges against members.
